HCD researchers lead new investigations of masculinity and HIV

Cathy_Vaughan_NEWHCD Research Associates, Andrew Gibbs and Cathy Vaughan, are leading the international focus on men and masculinities with a special issue of Culture, Health and Sexuality. The special issue critically explores the work that has been done with men and boys in health and sexuality programmes, and how this can be done in more progressive, equitable and health-enhancing ways. The closing date for abstracts is 30 April 2014 (click here for the call for papers). Andrew and Cathy are both graduates of the HCD programme. Andrew currently works as a Researcher with the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD) at the University of andrew-gibbsKwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, and Cathy is a Lecturer at the University of Melbourne.

Men and masculinities has long been a focus of HCD research. HCD researchers have contributed to explorations of the impacts of masculinity on responses to the HIV epidemic in relation to HIV prevention, masculinities as a barrier to HIV service access for both men and women.
